Who

Behind the brand is Danish designer Stine Sandermann. She graduated from the MA Sustainable Textile Design course at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, in London. During her BA and MA studies, Stine gained greater insight into the fashion industry – the world’s second most polluting industry next to the oil industry. She immediately chose to change her approach to design and never go back to making conventional fast fashion.

”The definition of sustainability from the Brundtland report from 1987 is my guiding star when I work with sustainable fashion. It states that sustainability is: ‘development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’.”

What

Our main focus at SANDERMANN lies on solid waste management. Both in regard to using waste materials as well as creating as little waste as possible ourselves when producing the garments. We spend a lot of time sourcing and processing sustainable, local materials and constructing zero-waste patterns for our garments.

We believe that ethics are just as important as aesthetics and therefore the SANDERMANN design builds upon the principle of a unique and fashionable statement for the daring and playful individual. At SANDERMANN there is a complete focus on detail, quality and craftsmanship which is truly paramount.

SANDERMANN is proud to be part of the Global Fashion Agenda. This means that we’ve committed to design 50% of our collections for cyclability by 2020.

Furthermore, we offer a take-back system and repair service. If you return old SANDERMANN products, you will get a 10% discount voucher to use on your next purchase. To avoid unnecessary waste, we offer a repair service, where you can return items in need of reparation. Please contact us for details.

What

Most of the wool used in our products come from waste wool. This wool is a bi-product from sheep bred for meat and would otherwise have been thrown away or burned. We source and collect the wool from hand-picked local sheep farmers and have our own yarns spun.

Since our journey began, we have travelled further into the world of Danish wool – a universe we have not yet discovered the limits to.  It’s very important to us that all our products are cruelty-free and have seen for ourselves that the animals have been well-treated.

Wool is very sustainable when sourced properly. It’s long-lasting, and it lets the skin breathe. It has self-cleaning properties, it doesn’t need frequent washing, it doesn’t wrinkle and therefore doesn’t have to be ironed. It’s a naturally renewable fibre and 100% biodegradable.
